| dc.description.abstract | In this work, a batch of 2.5 tons of spent household batteries collected in Caracas between 2011 and 2012 was studied and the results were shown. The fraction of the batch representing the Ni-Cd batteries was studied separately, due to its elevated toxicity. The physicochemical characterization of this type of batteries showed that nickel was the main element (57 % wt) in the cathodic material, under the form of Ni and Ni(OH)2. Whereas, in the anodic material, it was found that the main element was cadmium (65 % wt), under the form of Cd(OH)2. | |
