Contra nadie en la batalla: representación del enemigo en Sangre de mestizos

Abstract

Este trabajo reflexiona sobre la representación del enemigo en la narrativa de la Guerra del Chaco y tiene como referencia el libro de cuentos Sangre de mestizos (1936) de Augusto Céspedes. Como toda guerra, este evento generó un sentido de pertenencia y, al mismo tiempo, una otredad que se sintetizaría en la búsqueda de un enemigo común. Este trabajo analiza cómo la enemistad no está presente en la figura del soldado paraguayo, adversario directo de los bolivianos en el campo de batalla, sino en otros elementos, como la geografía inhóspita del Chaco y las elites regionales.

This work reflects on the representation of the enemy in the narrative of the Chaco War and has as reference the book of stories Sangre de mestizos (1936) by Augusto Céspedes. Like any war, this event generated a sense of belonging and, at the same time, an otherness that would be synthesized in the search for a common enemy. This work analyzes how enmity is not present in the figure of the Paraguayan soldier, a direct adversary of the Bolivians on the battlefield, but in other elements, such as the inhospitable geography of the Chaco and the regional elites.
