This study evaluates the effects of the law for judicial redemption of sentences through work and study on sentence reduction in a sample of prisoners at the Centro Penitenciario de Los Andes. General information is presented regarding the application of the law and it is calculated that 43.21% of the prison population has received a reduction in sentence. The mean reduction is 24.46%, in others words, one quarter in each prison sentence. In addition, the study finds that the proportional reduction is greater for shorter sentences indicating the importance of this law in the progressive fulfillment of prison terms.
