Satisfacción del uso del dispositivo FreeStyle Libre® en niños y jóvenes con diabetes mellitus tipo 1

Abstract

Background:The satisfaction of continuous glucose monitoring of interstitial fluid in Mexican children and youth has not been evaluated.Objective: To know the satisfaction of patients with Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 (DM1) with the use of the FreeStyle Libre ® (FSL) device, of the implantation, limitation of their activities and confidence in the results for the treatment, treated in a private hospital in Mexico City.Materials and methods: A survey was applied to 30 patients (ages between 7 to 24 years old), sociodemographic data, usage time, discomfort and impact on their daily activities with the device; confidence in the results for treatment support.Results: Median age was 18 years old, with a usage time of the device of 3.3 years (SD +1).17 (56.7%)were male.33.3% presented pain upon placement and 73.3% itching or burning, 90% expressed satisfaction to perform their daily activities normally and 86.7% did not feel embarrassed for its use.86.7% indicated comfort in its use and 86.7% expressed confidence in its results and support for glycemic control.Conclusions: The use of the FSL device seems to be well accepted by Mexican children and young people with DM1, since it does not limit their activities and could support them in their treatment.
