Maintaining adequate levels of reactive power and controlling voltage are two vital issues when dealing with electric power systems. Nevertheless, there is no current signal of economic compensation for the possible reactive power suppliers.  This document analyses an auction model that takes into account the sensitivities generators have on load nodes. The feasibility of a market for reactive power in Colombia is studied. The index HHI related to the agents that can supply reactive power for each of the Colombian STN regions is calculated. The document concludes that the presence of several technical limitations preclude the creation of effective reactive power auctions and strong markets in many areas of the Colombian STN.
