Chronic periodontitis is the most common periodontal disease, with slow progress and clinically characterized by loss of gingival insertion, it is produced by certain bacteria that activate acute immune responses favoring the appearance of atherosclerosis and thrombosis, causing therefore the beginning of ischemic cardiopathy. The aim of this study was to relate chronic periodontitis classified according to its intensity and the presence of some type of ischemic cardiopathy in patients attending to the service of Cardiology at the University Hospital of Los Andes (IAHULA). A descriptive cross-sectional field research was conducted. 60 patients of one and the other sex with age average of 59 years diagnosed with ischemic heart disease were selected. A periodontal clinical examination was made to evaluate the plaque index, probing depth, loss of gingival insertion, bleeding, mobility and lesions of furca. The results showed that 75 % of the patients with ischemic  cardiopathy showed chronic periodontitis of different ntensities with a statistically significant value of p=0.0024 according to analysis of Pearson´s Chi square It was oncluded that different levels of chronic periodontitis are strongly associated to ischemic cardiopathy.
