Prisoners are characterized for their exclusion from society and for receiving inefficient medical attention. The present research aimed to describe oral manifestations in soft tissues in inmates from the Judicial Prison in Trujillo State, Venezuela. Clinical evaluation was performed to a sample of male (n=58) and female (n=5) prisoners who attended to the dental office during the authorized period. It was a descriptive study with a field, cross sectional design. After the required literature review and after the authorization was gotten from the Judicial Prison authorities, one researcher went to the dental office at the prison to perform clinical examinations to the inmates. In this way it was possible to clinically identify oral soft tissue lesions and to classify them. Data were gathered in a clinical sheet. Results showed the presence of lesions for all the patients ranging from bad oral hygiene to some lesions like Actinic Cheilitis which happened to be the most common lesion found. Due to the amount and variety of lesions as well as the apathy of female inmates to attend to the dentist’s office, it is concluded the need to motivate female inmates to receive dental attention, and to form interdisciplinary work teams to approach the issue of health care in the prison for all the inmates from a whole view.
