DETERMINACIÓN DE INFECCIONES DEL TRACTO URINARIO EN ANCIANOS DEL ASILO SANTA RITA DE LA CIUDAD DE SUCRE

Abstract

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection in the urinary tract that includes the bladder, urethra, kidneys and ureters. Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a problem that is frequently seen in the elderly, especially in the elderly who live in nursing homes or have prolonged hospitalizations, where the incidence reaches up to 50%, mainly due to prostration, the deficiencies in hygiene and the procedures to which they are often subjected, as for example, surveys. The study aimed to determine the frequency of elderly people with UI in the Santa Rita household. A general urine analysis was carried out on August 27, 2019 in which 29 of the 43 residents of the Santa Rita household participated, the urine was collected in collecting bottles and subsequently a general urine test (physical, chemical, microscopic examination) and Gram staining was performed. Of the 29 urine samples of the elderly in the Santa Rita Home, 3 samples tested positive for UI being of these three, two urine samples of women were detected the presence of nitrites and abundant amount of gram negative Bacilli, which is a evidence for a positive UTI; one of a male where uric acid crystals were observed and abundant amount of Gram negative Bacilli and sporadic amount of Gram positive Cocci.
