Abstract
The use of polydioxanone threads has revolutionized the world of aesthetic medicine, not only because of the results obtained after its placement, but also because of the versatility of its use. There are many histopathological studies that have indicated that the foreign body reaction after inserting the thread, which has been observed is lymphocyte infiltration, collagen deposition and fibrosis, which explains the turgor effect that the skin acquires when placed, more complications of adverse effects by the biomaterial itself are rare. The knowledge of the anatomical spaces becomes of vital importance. In this case, the patient presented perforation of the buccal mucosa due to inadequate placement of the thread. His withdrawal and medication were enough to solve the case; however the infection had not been treated could have caused major damage. KEYWORDS: Polidioxanone, threads, complications, edema.
