dc.description.abstractln this essay. the statements that support the concept of academic literacy are examined. To do so, some of the most outstanding publications of Paula Carlino are analyzed. Carlino is the researcher who has more strongly promoted such term in Latin America during the last decade. In our reflections the benefits of promoting academic literacy are foregrounded (i. e. interdisciplinary work of university teachers in order to attend to their students' reading and writing deficiencies). Also, some of the main gaps and limitatione underlying her statements are discussed (i. e. the graphocentric conception of leaching, the lack of expansión of her pnnciples to other educational levéis, among others).
