Libros antiguos en los Andes venezolanos (S. XVI-XVII): Desplazamientos y rutas culturales

Abstract

The history of the book becomes an open line of research that allows the approach of printed materials as cultural products, in this sense it is linked both to typographers and those who have generated their circulation on a global scale over time. Consequently, the study of printed works, the demand for a systematic analysis on the different forms of production, the diffusion and the destination of the copies; Emphasizing the significant role that travel has played since the 15th century. Therefore, for the Spanish-American context, a critical double reading is imperative: the value of the European book and the importance of the displacements that make its circulation possible during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. In this work, we seek to recognize the aspects related to the passage from ancient times in Europe to Merida and in the colonial period, in an attempt to place in the “cosmography of the book” possible cultural routes that made it feasible to form libraries in this part of the world.
