Regímenes de poder y tecnologías de la imagen, Foucault y los estudios visuales
Abstract
This essay analyzes the legacies that Michel Foucault"™s corpus of work have had for the study of visual practices, the gaze and technologies of the image. Dating from when Foucauldian thought began to influence the visual studies field, I reflect on how the image and the gaze are inscribed within a network of relations, knowledges, technologies, norms and institutions. Such networks reveal how power operates as well as the construction of subjects. I also seek to bring into conversation concepts such as "visual culture," "visuality," and "scopic regimes" drawing on Foucault"™s arqueological perspective and genealogical proposal.
