Abstract

This paper aims at showing the results of a theoretical review whose main objective was to determine the key elements included in a case study design. Such a review focused mainly on (1) the importance of case studies (global – inclusive), classifi cation and characteristics of case study units of analysis; (2) transferability and result interpretation of this research design; (3) importance of triangulation, which results in scientifi c validity and reliability; and (4) fi nal discussion of a case study design. This study is expected to offer some insights to researchers in search of new trends in case study designs.
