This paper analyzes the process of creating and launching products in SMEs as a method of creative evolution which determines both the type of product and its potential commercial success or failure. Stages in the preparation and evaluation of economic projects are identified. The net present value and internal rate of return are recognized as decision criteria to calculate the viability of a project. A hypothetical cash flow of an investment project is provided in order to demonstrate that the evaluation and project formulation is a fundamental tool that allows entrepreneurs to reduce the level of uncertainty in the assignment of economic resources in their companies.
