Pobreza y Mortalidad Materna en Chuquisaca

Abstract

Pregunta de investigación: ¿La razón de mortalidad materna y otros indicadores de magnitud habrán experimentado algún cambio en Chuquisaca, y en su relación con la pobreza, entre 1998 y 2006? Objetivo: Describir la magnitud y estructura de la mortalidad materna en Chuquisaca entre 1998 y 2006 y su relación con la pobreza. Diseño: Estudio retrospectivo, descriptivo, tipo serie de casos. Métodos: Información secundaria procedente de los reportes mensuales de vigilancia epidemiológica del Servicio Departamental de Salud de Chuquisaca. Datos de población por municipio del Instituto Nacional de Estadística. Resultados: Leve descenso en el periodo de tres indicadores de magnitud: razón, tasa y riesgo de muerte materna en la vida fértil, con cifras más altas mientras más pobre es el municipio. Las hemorragias continúan como primera causa biológica de defunción materna.Research question: Are there any changes in the maternal mortality rate and other indicators in Chuquisaca, and their relation with poverty, since 1998 to 2006? Objective: To describe the magnitude and structure of maternal mortality in Chuquisaca since 1996 to 2006, and its relation with poverty. Design: Retrospective and descriptive study, series of cases. Methods: Secondary information of maternal deaths from monthly reports of the Health Service of the Department of Chuquisaca. Information on the population by municipality from the National Institute for Statistics. Results: There is a small reduction of maternal mortality in Chuquisaca from 1996 to 2006; the poorer municipalities have the higher risk rates for maternal death. Hemorrhages continue to be the principal cause of maternal mortality.
