A study of the variations in the surface tension of distilled water caused by alcohol, salt and saponin in different concentrations and mixtures is carried out. As a consequence of the difficulties arising from the pandemic, the study was elaborated in such a way as to make it feasible to realise at home. The Du Nouy method was applied, using a balance and a dynamometer as measuring systems, which were assembled with materials collected at home and purchased in book or hardware stores. It was observed that in the case of alcohol and saponin the surface tension decreases and that in the case of salt and a mixture of saponin and salt, it first decreases and then increases. Precise measurements of the systems were obtained with percentage errors of 11.3 % and 1.2 % for the dynamometer and the balance, respectively.
