La Ecoeficiencia y el Ecodiseño en la Industria de Celulosa y Papel en América Latina y su proyección a Venezuela

Abstract

La Industria es el motor de desarrollo, ya sea sostenible e insostenible de un pais y, por medio de la actividad productiva que genera, desempena un papel protagonico en el progreso de las sociedades; ya que es promotora y depositaria de tecnologia, ademas de ser la encargada fundamental de suministrar servicios a los ciudadanos. Asi mismo en contraparte, constituye la principal fuente de impacto ambiental, independientemente de su condicion publica o privada. La Industria Quimica donde se encuentra ubicada la Industria de Celulosa y Papel, forma parte de la cadena productiva del Sector Forestal Primario, en el que existe una gran variedad de especies maderables que conforman los bosques naturales y plantaciones forestales, que al ser explotados, se convierten en una de las materias primas mas utilizadas en los procesos industriales de fabricacion de papel, conformando de esta manera parte del desarrollo industrial de un pais. De ahi, que la justificacion e importancia de este trabajo radica en el hecho de que la Industria Papelera debe mejorar o transformar su organizacion, para adoptar un nuevo modelo de actividad productiva desde la Ecologia Industrial, contribuyendo a la obtencion del Desarrollo Sostenible; fundamentado en tres estrategias primordiales: La Ecoeficiencia, la Gestion Medioambiental y los Poligonos Eco-industriales, en donde la funcion de diseno es imprescindible para la consecucion de este modelo. Razon por la cual, cada dia mas se incrementa el interes de organismos, institutos y empresas hacia el Ecodiseno, que lo ven como una herramienta de enorme potencial, para poder implantar el modelo de Ecologia Industrial y contribuir de esta manera desde la industria al Desarrollo Sostenible de la nacion. Abstract Eco-efficiency and eco-design in the pulp and paper industry in Latin America and their projections to Venezuela Whether sustainable or not, industries are the engines of development of a nation by means of production activities. Industries play a leading role in progress of the society. They are the promoter and repository of technology, aside from being the foundation of providing services to the citizens. On the other hand, industries constitute the principal source of environmental impact, whether it is in public or private hands. Cellulose and paper industry belongs to chemical industry. It forms a part of the primary sector of forestry. Many varieties of arboreal plant species make up the forest and plantations. In exploiting these plants, they become the most utilized raw materials in paper manufacturing process, thereby shaping a part of industrial development of a country. From these facts, justification and importance our work originate. Paper industry should better transform its organization to adopt a new model of productive activity. In view of ecological industry, it would need to contribute to sustainable development based on three primordial strategies: eco-efficiency, environmental management, and eco-industrial zoning. Those are fundamental aspects and functions for forming such a new model. By the same token, interests in eco-designing are continuously in increase among organizations, institutions, and companies. They see it as a tool with great potential for introducing ecological industry models, thus contributing to sustainable development of a nation.
