Epilepsy is a chronic process, determined by abnormal neuronal activity. Epileptic patients do not present the same clinical manifestations during a seizure, due to this a dentist must be acquainted with the classification of seizures, antiepileptic drugs used to treat it and the factors that may trigger a crisis in the dental management. The objective of this research is to review and synthesize the implications related studies of epilepsy in the dental field. The dental condition of these patients is exacerbated by injuries and damage to tissues in the maxillofacial region, due to the effects of seizures and drug treatment they receive. The most common injuries are: dental caries, periodontal disease, tooth loss, bleeding tendency buccal and gingival hyperplasia. Moreover, one of the biggest challenges facing the dentist regarding these patients is the high risk of seizures that may occur during the dental visit. We suggest the development of a detailed history, in relation to the type of crisis that the patient has, the frequency and to control the same, as well the medications it receive.
