Due to the importance that voyages and explorations have had and still have for improvement of scientific knowledge in the southern tip of South America, information was gathered about natural history collections in Argentina and Chile. The botanical expeditions made since the foundation of the first Spanish settlement in the Plata Region (1527) are enumerated and commented upon. The main collectors, provenances, dates, results achieved, related papers, current location of samples, and their importance as concerns the progress of knowledge are recorded.
