Heavy oil processing. This is an analisis about the research carried out in the Chemical Engineering School of the University of the Andes in relation to heavy oil processing. Heavy oils from the Orinoco Belt have been processed by following routes: 1. Deshydratation-hydrodesmetalization-hydrodesulfurization-destilation vacuum-hydrocraking. 2. Deshydratation-Vaccum distilation-hydrocraking. 3. Direct hydroconversion. 4. Catalytic water craking. The experimental results show that heavy oils can be processed and transformed in gasses, gasolines, kerosene, gasoils, fueloils, asphalt, and coke. The quantity and quality of the products depends on the processing scheme.
