Family functioning is a determinant factory in health preservation and or disease installation among the family members. Family functionality depends on adequate management of the social and familiar support network available. The total 249 residents in all the specialties and year of study at graduate level of the Faculty of Medicine (University of the Andes, Merida, Venezuela) were evaluated through Family APGAR, FACES III, DUCKE-UNC Social Support Network, and Social Stratification. Low family dysfunction was found in 41,77 %, family cohesion in 43,78 % related directly with a good personal support given by the family, the high stress level was caused by the professors in first place followed by the wife or husband, and the specialty studied (Gynecology-obstetrics, Anesthesiology, Family Medicine, and Pediatrics). There was statistically significant relationship between having scholarship and family functioning, but not between socio-economic level and family functioning, between social level, cohesion and adaptability
