Intraoral clinical examination of patients with dentures is usually limited to a routine follow-up visit, which does not include a cytological evaluation that allows observing possible cellular changes that may be occurring in the oral mucosa. A descriptive observational, not experimental research was planned, whose objective was to assess possible cellular changes in the different degrees of Subprosthesis Stomatitis. sixty three patients with upper total denture and diagnosed clinically with Subprosthesis stomatitis (SPS) were selected, a cytological sample by the method of scraping for microscopic study was taken in order to determine cytological changes, present in all different degrees of Subprosthesis stomatitis. The results indicate that the predominant degree of SPS was II, and grade III was the most severe lesion of SPS; the presence of superficial cells in all patients was abundant, predominating in the groups of patients with grade II and grade III of SPS, while intermediate cells predominated moderately in all patients. It was demonstrated that oral cytology is a technique simple, economical, applicable to large population, and of great value in the field of dental prevention.
