Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is an aggressive and life-threatening syndrome of excessive immune activation, it characterizes by abnormal activation of macrophages and T cells that causes cytokine storm, with high morbidity and mortality. HLH is associated with autoimmune diseases, infections, malignancy, immunosuppression, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HLH has a high risk of progression to multi-organ disfunction syndrome (MODS) including acute kidney injury (AKI).HLH usually presents as an acute or subacute febrile illness associated with multiple organ involvement.
