dc.description.abstractThe article refers to the conditions that the preparation of rankings of higher education institutions must face. After analyzing some of the various complexities of this type of classification, the author warns of some of its undesired effects, such as the phenomenon that usually follows such publications, e.g. many universities establish goals and make decisions subject to the results of the rankings, forgetting part of what was originally stated in their mission. The article concludes with some proposals for future elaboration, particularly on the type of information, criteria, and indicators that should be included.
