dc.description.abstractIn this paper an attitude control system for academic research is presented using a three Single Gimbal Control Moment Gyroscope in a pyramidal configuration, based on the statement that each gyroscope will control a single degree of freedom.Control Moment Gyroscopes were chosen rather than Reaction Wheels because gyroscopes are lighter, more compact, provide greater stability control and can provide higher torque.The project is divided in three parts: the dynamic characterization of the system, the mechanical design of a prototype and the construction and evaluation of the prototype.Results of the evaluation show that the prototype is controllable, within a range of precision, in the three degrees of freedom.The range of precision is imposed by the type of controller used.
