dc.description.abstractThe increase in production that led Brazil to occupy a leading position as producer of broilers in the world is due to intensification of farming.This enhancement was based on several aspects that were carefully controlled, including the management (farming systems, environment, health among others).This review aims at discussing the main characteristics of broilers when they are subjected to thermal stress.Variables were discussed related to physiology, behavior, growth performance and organ morphology of birds of different ages, subjected to conditions beyond their thermal comfort zone.Also, it was conceptualized stress, cyclic and constant, and its influence on the welfare of chickens and the action of thyroid hormones in the body by means of thermal changes in commercial production.
