This study evaluated the use of Artificial Intelligence in information retention among college students. A quasi-experimental design was employed with a sample of fifty students who were asked to research a topic and complete a questionnaire. Participants were divided into a control group, which used the internet to complete the task, and an experimental group, which exclusively utilized an artificial intelligence chatbot (ChatGPT 3.5). To ensure uniformity in attentional capacity at the start of the experiment, an attentional test was administered prior to the task. Information retention was subsequently assessed through a knowledge test, administered immediately after the task and again one week later. The results indicated that the control group achieved significantly higher scores, suggesting that ChatGPT was less effective in supporting information retention in the short and medium term compared to other research methods.
