Abstract
In the last decades, there has been a decreasing trend in conception rate (CT) in dairy farms, which needs to be improved through the use of hormonal treatments. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of two hormonal treatments on CT in repeat cows and cows with postpartum anestrus in a dairy located in the region of La Libertad, Peru. Records of 1110 inseminations were evaluated, 857 corresponded to services in cows that presented normal postpartum estrus (T0), 116 services in repeat cows treated with CIDR + BE (T1), 137 services in cows with postpartum anestrus treated with GnRH + PGF2α (T2). Data were analyzed by Chi-square test and proportions. T2 CT (46.7 %) was similar (p>0.05) to T0 (47.8 %) and higher (p<0.01) than T1 CT (32.7 %). Services per conception (SC) of T0, T1 and T2 were 2.09, 3.05 and 2.14, respectively. Cows treated with GnRH + PGF2α showed better CT and SC compared to those treated with CIDR + BE, but were similar to the control. Hormonal treatment with GnRH + PGF2α could be an alternative to get pregnant cows showing postpartum anestrus.
