Abstract
This research analyzes the social imaginaries of Venezuelan migrants concerning Chilean society. On the basis of thematic analysis of twelve semi-structured interviews, we show that the deterioration of the material conditions of existence in Venezuela had a significant impact on the life trajectories of migrants who arrived in Chile between 2017 and 2020. Therefore, in the case of Venezuelan migration, agency and structure cannot be dissociated, because the Venezuelan State has a responsibility in the violation of the economic and social rights of its nationals. Neither can the context of departure and context of arrival be treated as if they were two separate realities, as shown by the narratives of migrants in relation to family networks, the social outburst of 2019, migratory mourning and the world of work.
