The mortality evolution in Venezuela is dealt with in this work. After more than 80 years of having experienced an important setback, in the last decade mortality has been significantly increasing with a clear tendency to a progressive rise in its levels. In the demographic analysis, specific rates were calculated (age and sex) for the period when official data were available (1950-2012) and estimates were made for the future (2017 and 2020), index of male overmortality and variations of percentage change in time, as well as a description and detailed analysis of graphics that illustrate the temporary variations of the studied aspect. Among the most important results, it was obtained that in the country in next years the mortality will continue to increase, mainly in the male sex, due to different exogenous causes, growing the male overmortality even more.
