Prevalencia de parasitosis intestinal en mujeres embarazadas del Centro de Salud Jaihuayco Julio-Septiembre 2012

dc.description.abstractIntestinal parasites affect especially low-income populations with a high prevalence in developing countries, probably\ndue to the lack of education (hygiene or food handling), poor accessibility to basic resources (water supply,\nsewerage, etc.) and poverty. The extreme ages like children and old people as the pregnant women are a sensitive\npopulation group to this kind of affection but, in this case the purpose of this work is to show the negative effects\nof this condition in pregnant women (anemia, malnutrition, children with low birth weight, etc.) .\nIt was realized a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study, the universe was 111 pregnant women who\nattended to the consultation service in Jaihuayco´s health center located in the south of Cochabamba´s city, where\nit was achieved the following main results: 25 from the 111 pregnant women have intestinal parasites determining\na prevalence of 22,5%. The most prevalent parasites were Entamoeba histolytica/coli with 15,3% and Giardia lamblia\nwith 3, 6%; in the 25 women with parasitosis; 10 of them presented anemia despite they were provided with\niron tablets to prevent anemia caused by physiological state.
