This study analyzes evaluation resources used by subjects with Down syndrome in order to\ndescribe themselves, express their emotions and judgments and refer both attitudes and evaluations\nof others regarding the Down condition. For that purpose, we follow appraisal theory (Martin 2000,\nMartin & Rose 2003, White 2005) and analyze the semantic-discursive component of attitude, in\nthree levels of expression: affect, judgment and appreciation. Results reveal a high presence of\nevaluative elements in the three levels. There are resources of positive evaluation in the expression\nof affect and appreciation. Regarding judgment, we find resources which evidence negative social\nsanction from the ethical perspective.
