dc.description.abstractIosafety standards emerged with the purpose of controlling and preventing transmission of infectious diseases, hence they must be applied by the professional in the general daily practice. The purpose of the present study was to know the standards compliance in the use of physical barriers by third year dentistry majoring students at the School of Dentistry at ULA, Merida State to prevent contagious diseases by students taking the third year. It was a field, observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study, the sample was included 102 students enrolled for Clinical Practice of periodontics. Data collection was performed through a 24-items collation list. Data analysis was conducted by using the statistical program SPSS, version 15 and considering theoretical issues to theoretical issues to strengthen its interpretation. Results showed that, in regards to the use of physical barriers before, during and after patient care, in most cases the standards are not entirely observed.
