In order to stablish a mass regeneration direct system of C. odorata that allows to achieve an genetic improvement program furthermore, parts of inmature zigotic embryos of cedar with about 1 mm lenght, were used as explants and cultured in vitro. Somatic embryogenesis was induced in MS (1962) medium supplemented with (mg/1) myo-inositol 100, sucrose 30.000, vitamins B5 (Gamborg et. al. 1968), 2,4-D (4,0 and 6,0) and DBA 1,3%. Embryos were incubated in darkness at 27 ± 2° C. Three or four months later, some globular structures were observed arising directly from the explants on the medium with 6 mg/ 1 of 2,4-D. Furthermore, some cotiledonary structures were developed with flattened hypocotyls. These structures were subcultured in a half strenght MS medium, auxin free, in order to get enlargement and eventual germination .
