Abstract

Resumen : Mourning Warbler, conocida en Cuba como Bijirita de cabeza Gris ( Geothlypis philadelphia ), tiene sus areas de reproduccion en America del Norte y sus areas de invernada en Panama, Colombia, Peru y Venezuela. Hasta el presente solo se tienen dos registros visuales de esta especie en el archipielago cubano, uno en octubre sin fecha y el segundo el 1 de marzo de 1987, en las provincias de La Habana y Holguin, respectivamente. El proyecto “Seguimiento de la Migracion en el golfo de Mexico”, liderado por el Centro de Investigaciones y Servicios Ambientales ECOVIDA, de Pinar del Rio, estudia la migracion otonal en el cabo de San Antonio desde 2015, mediante la captura de aves y anillamiento de estas, utilizando redes ornitologicas. En la manana del 9 de septiembre de 2018, a las 9:40 h se capturo un individuo, que resulto ser por las caracteristicas del plumaje un macho juvenil, de la especie antes referida. El ave capturada, constituye el tercer registro de esta especie para Cuba y confirma su presencia en nuestro pais, por la captura y anillamiento de un individuo. Abstract : Mourning Warbler known in Cuba as Bijirita de Cabeza Gris ( Geothlypis philadelphia ), has its breeding territories in North America and its wintering territories in Panama, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela. Until now we have in Cuba two sights of this species, one without date on October and the second one on March 1, 1987, in Havana and Holguin provinces respectively. The project “Follow up the migration in the gulf of Mexico”, heading by the Center of Research and Environmental Services from Pinar del Rio province, has studied the birds fall migration since 2015, using mist nets and capture and banding techniques. On September 9, 2018, at 09:40 h, we captured one juvenile male bird belong to the species before referred. The bird we captured is the third record for the Mourning Warbler in Cuba and it constitutes the confirmation about its presence in our country. Keywords : banding, migratory species, new record.
