Abstract

The structure of secular primary education and the imaginaries about childhood collaborated to avoid substantially transforming social segmentation parameters. Although the historiography favorable to highlighting the benefits of liberalism does not mention it, it cannot be denied that a discriminative approach to socio-cultural differences was present in the liberal discourse, even though the civilizing mission assigned to education had to do with the formation of progressive and modern citizens.
