Deserción estudiantil en tiempos de pandemia en una universidad intercultural

Abstract
La pandemia de COVID-19 intensificó la deserción estudiantil en la educación universitaria debido a múltiples factores. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar las causas de la deserción en una universidad intercultural durante la pandemia. Se empleó un enfoque cuantitativo, no experimental y descriptivo, utilizando datos del 100 % de los estudiantes desertores entre los semestres 2019-1 y 2021-1. Se analizaron factores de residencia, rendimiento académico, condiciones socioeconómicas, aspectos individuales e institucionales. Los resultados revelaron que el 67.39 % de los desertores provenían de áreas rurales, el 45.65 % presentó rendimiento académico regular, el 28.26 % señaló problemas de conectividad y aumento de gastos, el 28.26 % mencionó motivos familiares y el 26.09 % identificó la falta de apoyo docente o tutor como causas principales. El semestre 2021-1 registró la mayor deserción (66.46 %). Se concluye que superar estas dificultades requiere cambios en las políticas educativas y sociales, así como innovaciones en las relaciones entre docentes y estudiantes para abordar futuras crisis.
The COVID-19 pandemic intensified student attrition in university education due to multiple factors. This study aimed to identify the causes of attrition at a cross-cultural university during the pandemic. A quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive approach was employed, using data from 100 % of dropout students between semesters 2019-1 and 2021-1. Factors of residence, academic performance, socioeconomic conditions, individual and institutional aspects were analyzed. The results revealed that 67.39 % of the dropouts came from rural areas, 45.65 % presented regular academic performance, 28.26 % pointed out connectivity problems and increased expenses, 28.26 % mentioned family reasons and 26.09 % identified lack of teacher or tutor support as main causes. Semester 2021-1 registered the highest attrition (66.46 %). It is concluded that overcoming these difficulties requires changes in educational and social policies, as well as innovations in teacher-student relationships to address future crises.
