dc.description.abstractThe objective of this paper is to identify factors that may hamper the process of translation of natural language into algebra. This is a quantitative research study with a quasiexperimental research design. A specific test (objective) of five items included a mathematics problem-solving question methodology, which was, in turn, based on the highschool mathematics syllabus. Results suggest that students are not skilled to translate natural language mathematics problems into algebraic expressions. Therefore, some relevant recommendations to teachers and students are made aiming at downgrading difficulties in this regard.
