Sistemas en conflicto: las formas de tratamiento en la ciudad de Mérida, Venezuela
Abstract
This study, based on pre graduate exercise s, focuses on language attitudes of Merida speakers with relation to the second person pronouns tu and usted . The preferred pronoun in Merida is usted and the use of tu seems to be an accommodation towards speakers of other regions. The difference between real use and reported use indicates a certa in linguistic insecurity. The address form usted can be considered a marker of identity.
