The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the dynamics of international investment agreements within Latin America with special emphasis on the Andean region. It is noted that in accordance with global trends in recent years in the region has generated a series of reactions and changes in the content of investment agreements, tending towards balance or rebalance the rights and obligations of states and foreign investors. Under this scheme, while Colombia and Peru continue with liberal policies that favor such agreements, they took a series of actions to improve their content, whereas Bolivia and Ecuador, took tough actions (renegotiation, denunciation of investment agreements and international forums) depending on the arrival of new political actors, their strategies for development and entry into force of new constitutions.
