Objective: The paper aims to compare the adhesive strength between the acrylic resin of the denture base and soft surpassing, under the application of several surface treatments. Methods: Forty specimens were made and randomly divided into four groups of ten. The specimens consisted of two round molds of 20 x 3 mm thermo-cured acrylic resin and among these were placed the soft surplus material of 10 x 2 mm to which previously received Sandblasting, immediate  monomer, monomer for 180 seconds and control were applied. The materials used to make the specimens were prepared by following the manufacturer's  instructions (acrylic resin, soft surface and surface treatments). To perform the tensile test, the AUTOGRAPH AGS-J universal test machine (Shimadzu Japan)  was used at a tensile speed of 0.5mm/min. The obtained data were stored in Excel (Microsoft) spreadsheet, and processed with the statistical package  Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 15) p value was preset at 0.05. Results: means and standard deviations were as follows: sanding: 20.35 (±  4.07), immediate monomer: 20.10 (± 6.97), monomer for 180 seconds: 15.79 (± 9.08) and control; 15.47 (± 6.27), p value = .228; no significant statistical  differences were found. Conclusions: Under the conditions of the present research, denture base surface treatments do not improve the retention of the soft  reline material (COE-COMFORTTM, USA).
