International emigration of Colombians has become an interesting\nresearch subject given its increasing numbers. By 2005 there were approximately\n5 millions of Colombians living abroad. They represent 11% of the\ntotal Colombian population. On this study we analyze the labor inception of\nColombian migrants in the USA labor market by using data from the USA 2000\nPopulation Census. The results point out that for Colombian migrants it takes\nbetween 20 and 30 years for them to close the wage gap with their American\ncounterparts and that they actually get assimilated faster than migrants from\nother Latin American countries.
