Coordenadas teóricas para relevar y analizar el camino oncológico desde la perspectiva del paciente

Abstract

The article presents a theoretical framework addressing the pathways of individuals with cancer through healthcare services, with an emphasis on their access to care and the barriers they face. This effort forms part of a broader study aimed at documenting and analyzing the process of cancer diagnosis and treatment from the patient’s perspective in Argentina during 2024. Specifically, the article seeks to present a portion of the reviewed literature and establish the conceptual foundations necessary for the development of a methodological strategy in subsequent stages. The proposed conceptual framework stands out for its innovative approach, integrating contributions from various theoretical currents. It establishes a dialogue between perspectives related to the design and management of the healthcare system and its institutions (care model), studies on healthcare access, and approaches that explore patients’ pathways and experiences. The effort to understand the perspective of the individuals studied and the barriers they face necessitated the adoption of approaches sensitive to territorial particularities, barriers, comprehensiveness, and participation. Furthermore, concepts such as networks, coordination, continuity, stages, and episodes of care play a central role in this framework, aligning with the objectives of the study underpinning this literature review.
