Introduction: in the field of addiction, there are remarkable implications for the patient treatment completion in terms of their quality of life from both a clinical and social perspective. Aim: of the current study is to explore the interaction of factors with regards the patient (including family assistance to therapeutic groups), and treatment completion. Method: a retrospective study of 234 patients between the ages of 18 and 75, who had been through treatment at Fundación Recal from November 2014 to May 2018, was carried out. For this research, a group of sociodemographic and clinical variables were registered, and interaction was analyzed, whether the client completed or dropped out, using a CHAID algorithm. Results: it was observed that the principal interaction with treatment completion was family assistance in support groups. At the same time, this variable did interact with the history of previous addiction within the family, in addition to the client’s education level. The model obtained is adequate to classify treatment completion but not drop out. Conclusion: the results obtained provide support for the importance of introducing family into patient therapeutic plans, especially during the preliminary stages of treatment.
