Abstract

Este articulo discute el surgimiento de Ia Medicina Estetica como nueva especialidad medica y su lucha por definir su campo de intervencion; Ia necesidad de distanciarse de los oficios tradicionalmente orientados ai cuidado de Ia belleza; y Ia definicion de bienestar propuesta con base en una concepcion de salud que incorpora Ia dimension subjetiva del individuo contemporaneo. La accion de Iamedicina estetica sobre el modelado del Yoes posible por una tension extrema producida en Ia nocion de experiencia propia del regimen postmoderno, Ia cual amplia Ia condicion biopolitica de Ia modernidad hasta incorporar una estetico-politica que sirve de fundamento para Ia estilizacion del Yo y Ia intervencion estetica del cuerpo Abstract: This article discusses the emergence of Aesthetical Medicine as a new medica! specia!ization and its effort to define its field of action; the need to detach itself from traditional occupations concerned with esthethical procedures; and the definition ofwelfare proposed based on a conception of health that embraces the subjective dimension of the contemporary individual. The incidence of aesthtetical medicine on the Self is possible due to an extreme tension produced in the notion of experience under the postmodern regime, which broadens the biopolitical scope of modernity incoporating an aestheticpolitic which acts as a foundation for the stylization of the Self and the aesthetical intervention of the body.
