With the aim of evaluating ambient geological risks in La Joya-San Jacinto area at Merida State, an analysis of the variables that take part in carrying out the geological, geomorphological and geotechnical maps, has been made; to obtain as a final product an instability sectors map. This map was created from the overlay of this variables being associated with different ranges of slopes in the area, obtaining sectors that are represented by instability percentages. It is also important to take into account the continuous urban expansion that in the last 40 years has been affecting Merida City, without any kind of control. Furthermore, the sector occupied by La Joya-San Jacinto is considered a “possible expansion zone” (POU, 1992), therefore this paper tries to help those organizations making urbas plans and civil structures in that area to avoid possible natural disaster.
