University research centers (CIU siglas en espanol) promote knowledge and scientific research by proposing solutions to academic or community problems. CIUs interact under interpersonal structures and microsystems derived from different linked sectors. For its part, the ecology of human development (EDH siglas en espanol), proposes the conception of the ecological environment as a set of structures at different levels, where each contains the other. This article aims to show the capacity of system formation depending on the existence of its social, participatory and communicative interconnections. Through a quantitative methodology, a Likert scale questionnaire was applied to 18 CIU. The main contribution is the identification of characteristics and the development of strategic objectives of the CIU based on the EDH.
