Abstract

La caida de la Union Sovietica origino nuevas republicas en Asia Central: Kazajstan, Kirguistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan y Tayikistan. Sin embargo, la realidad geopolitica, junto a las contradicciones historicas propias, mostraron que el camino hacia la prosperidad habria de ser tortuoso. Este ensayo muestra su situacion actual, senalando sus principales indices y difi cultades de crecimiento economico y sociopolitico, y contrastandolos con los intereses geopoliticos de las grandes potencias. Tambien se observaran los intereses de los poderes regionales en relacion con los actores mencionados, en el espiritu de senalar las razonables expectativas de desarrollo soberano de nuestros casos de estudio. Abstract The Soviet Union’s breakdown begot several fl edging republics in Central Asia: Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. However, realpolitik, together with their historical internal contradictions, showed the road to prosperity to be very tricky. Th is essay discusses their present situation, listing their main economic and sociopolitical indicators in order to confront them with the geopolitical interest of the big powers. Also, it will take a look at the regional powers’ interests in relation with the aforementioned actors, trying to assess the reasonable expectations of sovereign development of the studied countries in the region’s very complicated geopolitical chess table.
