Abstract

The progressive increment of cases of odontogenic facial cellulitis was evaluated in the Emergency Service of the “Joel Valencia parpacen”, Petare, Venezuela. The odontogenic facial cellulitis was determined according to age, sex, and socioeconomic status in pediatric patients during the years 1997 through 2000. We studied 74 patients. The males were predominant (59.46 %). The most frequent age was that of pre-school children (2 to 6 years), 56.76 %. The socioeconomic status, evaluated after the Graffar scale (modified by Mendez-Castellano), showed 42 patients (56.76 %) in status V. Most of the patients (70.27 %) did not attend the preventive dentist consult.
