Abstract

Education is a complex and interesting process. The educator has a great responsibility as mediator, guide and counselor of teaching in different social contexts; its educational function transcends different spaces to implement meaningful, stimulating and innovative strategies aimed at children with different needs and interests; in this way, it is relevant to emphasize that the adult can use any place to teach. In this sense, the community work planned in the curriculum unit Playful Workshop, aims to raise awareness among students about the importance of educational attention to children, through the use  of play as therapy. The study is located under the participatory action research modality, attending a population of 35 children. To do this recreational playful activities were planned in order to offer an environment for the interaction of students with patients and family members. Toys were designed for  didactic purposes, used during the work days and later donated to the hospital classroom, useful for the group and individualized attention of the child population. Thus, the feasibility of offering educational attention to children oncological patients from the game modality as a teaching tool, means to overcome barriers and therapy for the expression of feelings, taking into account the particularities of the hospitalized patient for the sake of minimize the negative effects that this entails in order to improve their quality of life. It is important to note that the experience provides the student with the  training and construction of the professional profile, raising awareness of his or her purpose as a future educator, in order to guarantee a quality  education for all children, even if they are hospitalized.
